Fun in February

The month started out with a concert by one of Gerardo's favorite Christian bands, Living Sacrifice. Although he did not have anything to do with bringing them here, he was given the opportunity to pass out tracks and share the gospel with the audience.

As a family, we went to the autograph signing and meet the band session the night before. The girls had a great time playing with some of the other kids there. I had a chance to talk to the band members who really are just ordinary guys who want to share Christ with others through their music (they're from the States, so everything was done in English).

Our friend, Lydia, came over one weekend and painted the girls nails. I think it was the few times in her life that Elena was still for more than one minute.

Elena really enjoys talking on the computer to anyone who will listen. Here she is sporting the doggy ears that Katy made in school.

Elena also has some really good rhythm. Anytime music is turned on the girl starts moving.

However, she does not wake up so nicely, so here she is snuggling with daddy after her nap.

Today, Katy came home from school wanting to show us how she is learning to jump rope. Not too bad for first attempts. Elena, of course, had to give it a try also.

Despite all the "fun", there was lots of work too. Gera is keeping busy with OM, WorldCo (the wood plantation), church responsibilities, and studies. Katy loves school and is learning how to count up to 100 (not always in the right order), letters and their sounds, as well as how to write her name - she actually prefers to write Kathryn. Elena is talking more each day in both languages, although not as verbal as Katy was, she is able to get across her message with some very expressive body language. I am enjoying the challenge of having a student teacher for the first time. Her name is Jessica and she is from Auburn University in Alabama. She's doing well and I enjoy the opportunity to grow also as an educator - it's also nice to enjoy the weekends without having to worry too much about school.
