Summer Experiences

Even though it has only been one week of vacation, there have been lots of what we'll call experiences.

The first is driving. I now have the blessing of Gera to drive by myself in San Jose with the car. I'm not a perfect stick driver yet, but I must say that I'm doing okay. On Monday I drove all the way across town to Escazu where I tutor twice a week. There are some things that I need to get used to about driving here. For example, today, I was going around a round-about and I ended up going around it twice because I couldn't get off where I wanted to.

We finally were able to fix the car. Here she is in all her beauty. We have to take her in July for her RTV (somthing similar to emissions, but a lot more extensive).

The second is potty training. We've started potty training Katy and, I must say, she is doing pretty good. After reading many articles, books and talking to people, we decided the best way was "pants-less". Since Friday, Katy has been running around the house naked waste down. The first day was disheartening, but Saturday we had our first "hit". By Sunday afternoon she seemed to have it down pretty good. Monday there were no accidents! I thought for sure that she had it.Well, today we tried the underwear for the first time and she was fine out of the house (grocery shopping). However, at home she just goes to the bathroom through her underwear, so we're not ready for that step yet. For now, we'll just be content to let her run around naked if that means no diapers for us to wash and getting the "peepee in the potty"!

The last experience that I have to share happened this morning. We got our car back (all fixed:) and I was putting Katy's car seat back in the car. Katy was going in and out of the front door and playing with the car keys, when, to my surprise, I hear the slam of the front door. A quick look made me realize that I was locked outside of the house while Katy was inside with the keys!

Trying not to panic, I noticed one of the front windows was open and I was able to reach my hand in to move the curtains over. There was my beautiful baby, smiling and waving "Hi Mommy!" to me from the other side of the house oblivious to the peril of our situation. Now although she is more communicative, she's not to the point where she will "throw Mommy the keys" and do it with accuracy.

Looking around, I spotted a lot pole which looked long enough to reach the keys. After some quick manuevering, I was able to hook the keys on the pole, slide them out and open the door. There was my angel, smiling and ready to give me a hug.
