Independence Day

As many of you already know or may remember, September 15th is a special day here in Costa Rica - the day we celebrate our "independence" for Spain. Since this national holiday is celebrated during the school year, there are many school activities.

Katy had to wear her typical Costa Rican dress and dance. She was so proud of her dress and loved her fan. Gera's mother was able to come and watch Katy during her presentation. Katy was so happy to show "Aya" her class and the routine that she is supposed to follow every morning. Elena just loved being there with her big sister:)

Sara got to dress up and dance with her class the following day. She debuted danceing the punto Guanacasteco. It was a learning experience and fun to wear the flowy skirt all day long, swishing down the hallway.

Later that evening we joined the local neighborhood lantern parade all dressed up. Gera bought Katy a new outfit to last her for the next two years and Elena inherited Katy's old one. Elena was thrilled to have a dress like her sister and Katy was fascinated with her "Costa Rica skirt". We dressed them both up in them the next day and headed out to watch a few parades on our way to a friend's house for dinner.

Over all, it was another good independence celebration. Viva Costa Rica!!
